So, you want to learn to sew?
This six-week course is designed for complete beginners and will teach you everything you need to know to start sewing with confidence. No previous experience is needed and everything you need to get started will be provided for you.
Over the six weeks, you will learn how to set up and use a sewing machine, sew different seams and finishes, understand sewing terminology, read a sewing pattern, take your own measurements, choose the right size, cut fabric accurately, and make simple adjustments to improve the fit.
You will begin by making a tote bag, before moving on to a pair of elastic-waist, wide-leg trousers.
Each project is designed to build on the skills learned in the previous week, giving you plenty of time to practise while making something useful and wearable.
Classes are kept small, with a maximum of four students, so you will receive plenty of individual guidance and support throughout the course.
Sewing machines, overlockers, irons, tools, thread, and studio equipment are all provided. You will just need to bring the fabric required for your projects, and we will provide guidance on what to purchase before the course begins.
By the end of the six weeks, you will understand the sewing process and have the skills and confidence to continue sewing independently.
